4 Tips for Securing Your Company's Network During the Holidays

November 17, 2016

As Thanksgiving approaches, it's time to start thinking about the security measures that need to be taken to ensure your organization's data is protected against threats during the holiday season. After all, hackers and phishers don't take a break over the holidays – in fact, they often capitalize on business vacancy during this season and increase their attempts to gain access to confidential data.

To keep unauthorized individuals from compromising your business's network in the upcoming weeks, our New Castle County company specializing in IT security recommends taking the following precautionary measures:

  1. Make physical security a priority – If your company is going to be closed for a holiday, be sure to secure everything that contains or provides access to confidential information. This includes server rooms, wireless devices, network switches and computers. For extra protection, you should encrypt hard disk content so that cybercriminals are unable to access this information if they break into your facility. Taking this step will also ensure ill-intentioned employees cannot extract data from the hard disk while no one is around.
  2. Turn off wireless – A common tactic for cybercriminals is to try to tap into the wireless network of a company and launch an attack. Therefore, it's in your organization's best interest to switch off wireless when the company is shut down for the holidays. This is super easy to do, and it goes a long way in preventing cybercrime from affecting your company.
  3. Double-check that passwords are strong – If you're going to be leaving computers running while out of the office over the holidays, it's important to make sure they're equipped with strong, hard-to-guess passwords. This will provide an extra level of defense against hackers.
  4. Hire an IT security company in New Castle County – Since you and your employees won't be around to monitor your company's network for threats during the holidays, it's a good idea to have a New Castle County IT security company on your team. That's where Alura Business Solutions comes in. Our data center offers world-class Fortune 100 technical support, network monitoring and comprehensive alerts 24/7/365. So even during the holiday season, we'll constantly watch out for and notify you of any threats to your network.

Implementing these practices will help to safeguard your small or mid-sized business's network during the holidays.
